January 6, 2012 Welcome to the District 12 Newsletter Home of the Bobcats!
Happy New Year and Welcome Back! We hope all of you had a safe and enjoyable holiday break. It was nice to see all those smiles on the kids' faces the first day back to school. Third quarter began on Jan. 3rd. It is hard to believe how quickly the first half of the school year has flown by. It now starts that time of year where the going gets a little tougher, and we all must continue to work hard and give our absolute best effort in everything. Please help us here at school and make sure your kids stay on top of their school work.
Important Reminders
Report Card: The second quarter is over. Report cards will be coming home on Friday, January 6th, 2012. Please look these over and see if you have any questions. Please feel free to contact your child's teacher with any questions.
AIMSweb Testing: We will be doing our testing starting Monday, January 9, 2012. This will be the winter benchmark tests for the Breese School District 12. The kids will be tested in both Math and Reading. Result letters will be going home with all students in a few weeks.
S.A.F.E. Presentation: Will be taking place at the Beckemeyer Campus on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. The Breese Campus will be doing their presentation at a later date.
Team Quest Competition: Good luck to the following grade level teams as they compete in Centralia in the annual Team Quest Challenge. Representing the 3rd and 4th grade coached by Mrs. Zinn on Jan. 17th we have the following students: Nicholas Warnecke, Kolten Diesen, Hope Grawitch, and Kayla Shanafelt. Representing the 5th and 6th grade sponsored by Mrs. Reckling on Jan. 18th we have Colin Bade, Lukas Keene, Stella Yaunches, and Elaina Johnson. Then on Jan. 19th with Mrs. Gerdes for our 7th and 8th grade team we have Madison Freeman, Michael Reynolds, Clara Colston, and Keegan Spirek. We know all the teams will make us proud and represent our district well!
D.E.A.R.: DEAR will be held on Friday, January 20, 2012. The theme will be "Snuggle Up With a Good Book." The students may bring a stuffed animal and/or slippers on this day.
Box Top Winners: Congratulations to the winning classes of the Box Tops for Education contest held for the month of December: Mrs. Bohnenstiehl's class in Beckemeyer collected 282 Box Tops and in Breese, Mrs. Hintz's class collected 189. Both classes will get to enjoy donuts. Please continue to collect Box Tops. The class that collects the most in each building in January will be rewarded with a surprise.
Students of the Month: We want to congratulate the Students of the Month for Breese District 12! At the Beckemeyer Campus we have Isabella Patterson - 4th Grade; Trace Robinson- 3rd Grade; Christian Dryden - 2nd Grade. At the Breese Campus we have Abigail Brown - ECH; Maxwell Niemeyer - Kdgn; Courtney Bassler - 1st Grade; Samantha Kuhl - 5th Grade; Jenna Ritchey - 6th Grade; Tyler Giller - 7th Grade; Brandon Wesselmann - 8th Grade.
5th Grade Recycling Project: Play your part, please recycle. About 40% of all trash that ends up in a landfill is paper. Paper is one of the easiest substances that can be recycled. District 12 will be teaming up with Community Link and recycling paper of all kinds beginning January 2012. We are going to play our part; we hope you play yours.
Incoming Freshman Information Night at Central: Central Community High School will be holding an informational meeting on Thursday, Jan. 26th from 6:30-7:30 pm for all potential incoming freshman and their parents/guardians. The meeting location will be in the West Gymnasium of the school. All students attending will be given a free admission pass to a boys or girls basketball game on the designated nights. If you have any questions regarding the night, contact Central at 526-4578.
Dental Exams: Reminder that all Kindergarten, 2nd Grade, and 6th Grade students need to have a dental exam on file. If one has already been turned in, thank you-if not, please make an appointment soon. The Smile Mobile Dentist will be visiting the Beckemeyer School on April 23rd and the Breese School on April 24th to help fulfill this requirement. More to follow as these dates get closer.
Winter Weather: Students will be going out to P.E. and recess whenever possible, even when it gets quite cold. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for all kinds of weather. Also, make sure the items are labeled with your child's name. Thank you!
PTC
The next PTC meeting is scheduled for January 10th at the Beckemeyer cafeteria at 7:00pm. We hope to see you all there.
SAVE THE DATE: PTC Spaghetti Dinner - Sunday, January 15, 2012 from 4-7pm at the Breese KC Hall.
This year includes a carryout line.
We are again planning to break the work shifts into two time slots (set up and serve from 3-5:30pm and serve and clean up from 5:30-8pm) so that our helpers can also enjoy the meal with their family.
Thanks to those who have already contacted me to sign up! If you are interested in helping in one of those timeslots please email kruseamy@hotmail.com or call 526-2703 for your choice in shifts.
If not available that day but could help prepare and distribute flyers, that's okay too - contact us. No matter your schedule, we are confident that we can find a spot for you!! We will also begin contacting our 2 hr. power volunteers as well.
We will again be seeking food/supply donations like we did last year as follows:
Kindergarten/1st Grade - Desserts 2nd & 3rd Grade - Salad Dressing 4th-8th Grades - Spaghetti Noodles
Class notes with more details will be sent home individually with students. Noodles and dressings can be sent to school anytime next week. Or better yet, join us for the PTC meeting on the 10th and deliver your assigned food item then.
Hope to see all of our Dist. 12 families turn out to share a great meal. While at it, bring along a neighbor, friend or other. Spread the word!
St. Patrick's Day Bash: It was voted upon at a recent Sports Booster meeting to join forces with the PTC for the St. Patrick's Day Bash. Details will be forthcoming. If you have not had an opportunity to be a part of this event in the past, it's a great evening out. Committees are forming now and will get things kicked off in January. If you have a special auction item or want to host an outing to be auctioned, please let us know!!
Family Nights: Though it seems like the PTC is forever raising funds to support our programs, we are also an organization to focus on the relationships between the students, parents and teachers. What better way to do this than by hosting activity nights that are family friendly? The opportunities are endless with a little help from a couple of parents that are interested in setting it up. A few ideas discussed at the past meeting include a family game night. If you would like to help organize an activity night please contact the PTC. We have lots of helping hands just need someone interested in spearheading.
We Collect: Box Tops, Campbell's Soup Labels and Coke Rewards points. For more info - see the PTC page on the Dist. 12 website.
